This title sequence is made for the movie The Menu by the director Mark Mylod. It shows the food being eroded by society, power, and worship and gradually losing its original meaning, “to eat”. Through making this title sequence, I hope the audience can feel the delicacy of the food preparation process, but feel confused about the weird, “not-eatable” process. Also, the audience can know that this is a story about fine dining or art, and starts watching the film with questions about the meaning of food and eating.
For the visual aspect, I wanted to illustrate the chef's state of mind about cooking in the film through the change from white to dark black, from simple and pure to contaminated by giving heavy meanings.
